Software Distribution System -- Distribution Decision #003
Software Package: Remote Access BBS, QuickBBS
Intended Distribution Area: All
Date: October 23, 1993
It has been decided by the SDS RC Council by unanimous vote that both
the Remote Access BBS software package (also known more popularly as
RA) and the QuickBBS software package are both commercial software
packages. Consequently, they are both ineligible to be distributed
via SDS since they violate the following section of SDS_PP&G:
Software packages submitted into the SDS must meet certain
criteria for distribution. In all cases, the regional SDS
coordinator has the authority to accept software, or to reject it,
based on his judgment as to suitability.
Specifically, the SDS shall carry any software which is public
domain, and/or shareware, which is submitted and which is judged
to be of sufficient interest to the network as a whole.
Submissions may be rejected based on any of the following reasons:
1. The software submitted is not public domain or
shareware, and has restrictions on the distribution of
the product. Commercial software is one example of
software which can not be accepted into the Software
Distribution System (for obvious reasons).
Henceforth, submissions of RA or QuickBBS will not be accepted of carried
via the SDS network. This ruling only applies to the RA and QuickBBS BBS
software packages. Utility software written for these packages will be
judged for submission to SDS per SDS_PP&G on an individual basis by the
SDS RC to whom it is submitted.
